Ghosts in the Grain: exploring the depths of analogue horror
Project type
Portraits
To me, analogue horror is not just a genre, but a captivating realm of storytelling. From a young age I have been enamoured by analogue media- perhaps it's just nostalgia from such fast pacing digital advancement, I yearn for the clunky whirring noise of a CRT television when the tape has ran out. the droning static when there's no signal. The nostalgia is crucial to the experience. It serves as a haunting reminder of a bygone era. It is a vehicle through which we are transported, inextricably tied to our memories, tethered to the past.
I also think the elements of the analogue create an aura of something uncanny, something uncomfortable in the static. I am an avid collector of all things analogue, I have an extensive collection of video and audio cassettes, vinyl, and vintage cameras. I love manipulating audio to create something disturbing and ambient.
Here are some new & reworked pieces that are inspired by this genre.
