Dandelion Wine

This open mic night is incredibly special to my heart. Upon recognising the lack of open mic events in Newcastle, I took the initiative to enter the world of event organizing and hosting. I wanted to cultivate ample opportunity for local artists to network, perform, and be entertained. I hosted at popular venues The Grove, and The Lubberfiend.

It was very rewarding having so many people feedback to me how significant the event was to them, how they had a safe space to perform and exist especially as queer, POC, or disabled people. It is incredibly important to me to enrich other minorities. The excitement was huge in the local arts scene, and to those who had just been told by a friend how incredible and friendly the crowd and atmosphere is at DW. There was a wide diversity of aesthetics and subcultures thriving at this event, which went on for several months before the Summer, when I decided to focus on my own development as an artist.

I also gained experience as a light technician and made myself familiar with the lighting equipment, as well as managing the sound tech and performers, making sure cues were executed and that everyone was looked after. I am fascinated by the technical and practical aspect of events and productions and would love to explore this more in the future.
